Although some of these informal providers have been able to charge high interest rates because they operate outside of the financial system and frequently have limited institutional and administrative capabilities. To buy agricultural inputs, get veterinary care, maintain infrastructure, hire workers for cropping and harvesting, transport goods to lucrative markets, make payments, receive payments, and manage peak season income to cover low season expenses, invest in education, housing, health, or handle emergencies, people who live in rural areas may need access to financial services.

Our Approach

At Finrise we have set our foot into smallholder farmers in villages who at large lack the knowledge of Financial Inclusion. We also work with CBO Government Groups, AMCOS & SACCOS, Vulnerable Groups such as Widow, Disabled people to provide financial knowledge.

Facilitating formation of Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs). VSLA’s is a group of people who save together and take small loans from those savings. The activities of the group run in cycles of one year, after which the accumulated savings and the loan profits are distributed back to members. These associations are based in the rural community and tend to serve the community members whose income is irregular and less reliable and who may not be employed full-time. The main objective of VSLA’sisto help members of the group to manage house hold cash flow and provide useful lump sums for life-cycle event, to provide the opportunity of loans for investments and other needs, and to create social fund relief of members experiencing emergences such as drought, flood, crop diseases, school fees, human diseases etc. Therefore, the community will be empowered through VSLA’s in order to increase access to financial services through alternative income.
